Netflix adds 158 million customers

Netflix already has 158.3 million subscribers worldwide, demonstrating its strength in the face of increasing competition. However, its biggest advantage is outside its country of origin, the US, adding more than 90 million customers and winning others such as Disney + or HBO. The US market has more than 60 million members.
Since the beginning of 2017, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa they have more than doubled in subscribers, and it is the largest region outside the US. While Latin America has also registered strong growth, Asia remains a small part of the business in general, although it is a promising region.
These are the figures that Netflix has released on Monday in a presentation in which it boasted how fast it is expanding in specific regions of the world, in an effort to persuade Wall Street to focus more on its growth outside the market American, increasingly competitive.
The increase in Netflix subscriptions in the US has long been a key signal for Wall Street and an important driver of the actions. But growth has begun to slow down and the company faces greater competition as new rivals begin to function. In fact, the presence outside the US puts Netflix far ahead of Disney +, which debuted last month, or HBO Max, which will launch in May.
The price competition is also intense, since the Disney + service costs $ 6.99 per month compared to the $ 12.99 of the most popular Netflix plan. In addition, one of the concerns of investors is that Netflix will not be able to charge as much abroad for its service as in the US, which means that foreign growth would not be as lucrative as growth in American households.
Netflix has an appointment with the market on January 21. It will be on that date when the company will publish its accounts for both the fourth quarter and the full 2019 fiscal year.
